Unlike humans, fires usually travel uphill much faster than downhill. The steeper the slope, the faster the fire travels. Fires travel in the direction of the ambient wind, which usually flows uphill.

The Himalayan Mountain Range was formed roughly about 70 million years ago as a result of a collision between Indo-Australian and Eurasian plates. Due to this collision it's still growing 20 mm every year. Himalayas cover 0.4% of the space of earth.

The IBM 305 RAMAC was the first commercial computer that used a moving-head hard disk drive (magnetic disk storage) for secondary storage.The first RAMAC to be used in the U.S. auto industry was installed at Chrysler's MOPAR Division in 1957. It weighed over a ton.

Use of aluminum in cans began in 1957.The easy-open aluminum end for beverage cans was developed by Alcoa in 1962 for the Pittsburgh Brewing Company and is now used in nearly 100% of the canned beer market.

In a single second about 100 lightning bolts strike's on the Earth's surface and yet their power is extraordinary. Each bolt can contain up to one billion volts of electricity. Most lightning occurs over land rather than oceans, with around 70% of it occurring in the Tropics. The average temperature of lightning is about 53,540 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mandarin Chinese language doesn't have an alphabet. It is written with symbols. These symbols are called Chinese characters. Chinese characters represent the oldest writing system in the world.There are over 100,000 Chinese characters recorded in the most advanced Mandarin Chinese dictionaries. The second, third and fourth most widely spoken languages are Spanish, English and Hindi respectively.

Gary Thuerk sent the first email spam message in 1978 to 600 people. He was reprimanded and told not to do it again. It was estimated that spam cost businesses on the order of $100 billion in 2007. Bulgaria is the first country to legalize spam. Acronyms for spam are believed to be false etymologies.

There are over 7 billion people in the world. An estimated 4 billion of them own mobile phones, but only around 3.5 billion own toothbrushes.

Violins are very complex and it require over 70 different pieces of wood to create a modern violin. The Violin is also called a fiddle. The modern word Violin is derived from the Italian word violino, literally meaning 'small viola'.

The first independent version of Microsoft Windows, version 1.0, released on November 20, 1985, achieved little popularity. The project was briefly code named "Interface Manager" before the window system was developed, contrary to popular belief that it was the original name for Windows.
